About Sir James & His New Coloring Book
Growing up in Jackson Ward, I was surrounded by a rich history. As I got older, I began to think more about that history and felt it was important to share it with the community, especially with kids. It’s important for children to know the story of their neighborhood. Learning where they come from helps shape young minds and builds curiosity.

This book teaches history through art. When kids learn through color and creativity, the experience becomes more fun and easier to remember. Coloring the pages is like painting a mural. Kids aren’t just reading—they are taking part in the journey.

Because this book is also a journal, children can visit the real murals in the neighborhood. They can see the places, reflect, and connect the past to their own lives. I didn’t know many of these stories growing up, but now I get to share them with the next generation, right where they happened.
